College grounds provide their own set of distinct security challenges. Firstly, some college buildings are often open until the evening hours as they serve people across a range of ages and jobs. In the later college hours, a physical security presence such as mobile patrols or security personnel at college entrances may give college students extra assurances that they can attend evening classes or libraries to study in peace. College staff may also feel more comfortable knowing that intruders will be deterred after dark. Also, a physical security personnel can provide the benefit of listening to student or staff member queries should there be any worries regarding security.
College entrance points that are still accessible after hours can benefit from access control i.e. entrance keycards. This is particularly useful for unstaffed areas and is a separate way to keep out anyone who isn’t a student or staff member of the college.
